The Quite American is starring by Michael Cain who plays Thomas Fowler, Brendan Fraser plays Alden Pyle and Hai Yen plays Phuong.

The story of film begins in Saigon (Vietnam) on 1952, when a British journalist is requested by his boss to return to London. Thomas Fowler replyies the telegram saying that he is writting an important news article, but the truth is only has written three articles along more than two years, and he hasn't begun any one more.

Meanwhile he meets an American aid worker in a bar of popular hotel. Alden Pyle was born in Boston and he tells Fowler that he has come to help the people of Vietnam.

Thomas Fowler is living with a beautiful Vietnamese woman since two years ago, but Fowler can't be married because he is already married with a London woman. When Fowler introduces Pyle to Phoung, Pyle feels in love with her.

On the other hand, Fowler achieves to interview the new Vietnamese general who has revealed itself against the comunists and French army. Then he finds out this general is supported by the USA government.

Finally, I want to comment that after the time has been situated the story of film, France signed the peace with Vietnamese Comunists, and then Vietnam was divided on 17th Parallel. After Ho Chi Minh, leader of North Vietnamese decided to invade all Vietnam. Then USA government assigned more than 1/2 million army soldiers to war against Vietnamese Comunists.
